United Kingdom: CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme
The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC Energy Efficiency
Scheme) came into force on 1st April 2010, and is the UK's first
mandatory carbon trading scheme.

Efficiency Scheme visit
The Department of Energy & Climate ChangeDoes the Scheme apply to you?
The initial phase of the CRC is compulsory for
organisations that consumed over 6,000 MWh of half-hourly metered
electricity during the period from January 2008 to December
2008. At today's prices, this is roughly equivalent to
electricity bills of £500,000 per year. It is expected to affect
over 5,000 organisations (both private and public sector) within
the UK.

How
credit360 can help
credit360 is already helping our UK based clients ensure
they ready for submission of their 'Footprint Report' in year
1. This is critical for purchasing carbon credits when they
go on sale in April 2011. Our world leading sustainability
software effectively manages the additional requirements of the CRC
enabling you to:
- review your 'Evidence Pack' at any time as the system
automatically builds this for you (all CRC companies will be
audited at least once in any 4-year period)
- collect information on your organisation's electricity meters
(including MPANs) in a central, secure location
- record usage data from your meters with a full audit trail and
supporting documentation (bill scans and contracts)
- calculate carbon emissions from electricity consumption data
using preconfigured and/or custom carbon factors
- set targets and manage your emissions within the system prior
to submitting your required CRC consumption data

Australia: National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System
In 2007, the Australian Federal Government passed the
National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (the NGER
Act) establishing a mandatory reporting system for corporate
greenhouse gas emissions and energy production and consumption.
Does the Act apply to you?
A requirement to report under the NGER can be triggered
in three ways:
- your level of direct greenhouse gas emissions
- your company's total energy produced
- your company's total energy consumed
A company triggers the reporting threshold if:
- In year 1 (2008 / 2009): the company produces 125,000 tCO2e
gross direct emissions or 500 TJ of energy are produced or
consumed
- In year 2 (2009 / 2010): the company produces 87,500 tCO2e or
350 TJ of energy are produced or consumed
- In year 3 (2010 / 2011): the company produces 50,000 tCO2e or
200 TJ of energy are produced or consumed
A facility can also trigger the reporting threshold if it
produces 25,000 tCO2e or produces or consumes over 100 TJ (from
2008 / 2009).
Key dates for Year 2: 2009-2010 reporting (financial) year
- Corporations must apply to register by
31 August 2010 for the 2009-2010 reporting (financial)
year.
- The reporting deadline for the 2009-2010 reporting (financial)
year is
31 October 2010.
